New Zealand - home of the takahē
The takahē (a flightless New Zealand bird) has only been found living in the wild in the Murchison Mountains, Fiordland National Park (Mitre Peak, part of Fiordland National Park, is shown at the top of the page) and Gouland Downs in Kahurangi National Park. Sophie Standing has taken the takahē as a special project to highlight the plight of this endangered bird species in New Zealand.

Sophie Standing WritesA very special Takahe project in NZ. Incredible flightless birds that are doing well in the wild now thanks to this brilliant project. Myself and my students will be creating a textile art takahe in the month of March across 4 different locations in New Zealand. Can’t wait!
